The female role in Greek and Roman religion and its impact on society Throughout the ancient world, the aspects to which a successful society thrive under have been skewed, except for that of religion. Although a universal religion has never been adopted, most empires tend to follow a basic outline similar to one another. In relation to Greeks and Romans, this ideology still holds true. Religion between these two societies have had their differences, but for the most part they have kept the same values held high. Women and their impact on Greek and Roman religion is what shaped these regions to flourish and is what held the empires together through all war and turmoil that came their way. As history has shown, life cannot be sustained without a female presence. Religion of this time took that into consideration as women were the center of worship and ensured that proper rituals and ceremonies were upheld to please the gods. In both Greek and Roman religion, most deities were of female gender due to their connection with the cycle of life as well as having a nurturing demeanor. However, many people have looked at the topic solely from the perspective of male and female consumers and the effect that gendered advertisements has on them. Seing what’s going on in our country now, and reading about what has happened before, I don’t really see much difference. It’s all about people not getting along, egos, ambitions and alliances. I admire Andres Bonifacio not just for being a self-educated man but also for his courage to organize a secret society called Katipunan. I think what happen to the Tejeros convention was a big mistake because he don’t deserve to be insulted by Daniel Tirona just because of his educational attainment. That is why I understand him when he left and declared the results of the election null and void in his capacity as the Supremo of the Katipunan. Inspite of his low temperance I considered Antonio Luna as one of the great men of history because he has determination to fight and defend our country from Americans. He is also well prepare to fight and had this courage to depend the country until the end of his life. It is a bravery that some Filipinos don’t possess that time and because of this he gained many enemies. I felt sorry for Antonio Luna for they had all been unfair to him. But I do believe that Aguinaldo should not be blamed alone for his death because for me he is also a victim of circumstances. In my interpretation the killing of Antonio Luna was planned smoothly by using the telegram that they had manipulated, he died without even knowing it. If at the start he was aware about this unscrupulous plan that they are planning against him, he could have avoided being killed if he just hadn’t appeared in Cabanatuan where in the said â€Å"telegram† the president summoned him. But he wasn’t distrustful or suspicious that he even left his accompaniment outside the premises leaving him unarmed and vulnerable as he entered on Aguinaldo’s camp. The worst thing was: How come the soldiers who did him in were neither investigated nor punished? In our generation now, we need an Antonio Luna today who would not be listened to but, someone with the same act of bravery. Someone who’s intelligent enough to recognize the true horrors of what is going on in our present state of government GREGORIO DEL PILAR General Gregorio del Pilar fought a heroic battle at Tirad Pass in Ilocos Sur against a much larger American force to delay the American advance to ensure Emilio Aguinaldo’s escape is a sign of his loyalty to Aguinaldo. Del Pilar was killed in the battle along with 52 others of the defending force. Inspite of criticisms about him, I still consider Del Pilar as one of the great Filipino heroes because saving Aguinaldo’s life is not just because of his loyalty and friendships to him but also a sign that he also cares for our country. I do not want to blame anyone for whatever happened in the past because like us our heroes were just a human beings too, imperfect, like all of us. Gregorio’s courage and determination to fight until his last breath are enough to consider him as a hero. He deserves to be respected and be admired by our youth today because without him, we cannot live the freedom that we are enjoying now. Philippine Martial Law Learning about what happened in the past helps me to understand our current situation now. I was inspired by the documentary film of Martial law because it gave me new information that was so important upon studying our history. I will admit that I am not so fun of studying our history but this time I could probably say that I love it now. As I reflect on the movie I see that Martial Law in the Philippines violated Human Rights and Democracy in the circumstances of arrests, detentions and searches made without court orders that time. The fundamental principles of legality and due process have been neglected, with security forces having unprecedented powers given by the head of state under this martial law. Election frauds were also perceived. Justice among those involve were deserted and abandoned and Justice for the country’s democracy were put in to trash. Martial rule and suspension of writ of habeas corpus, which allows warrantless arrests, detention and conduct of searches, have been a convenient solution for the police force’s incompetence in enforcing their rudimentary duties. The soldiers have cemented their de facto superiority over the police in conflict areas. Marcos is not as bad as we think of him because in his two first terms, Philippines was the envy of Asia because of its rapid growth and development. He built several schools, hospitals, roads and cultural centers. In my opinion, if he just stay as what he is before probably he will not be known as bad person. But as people have the power sometimes they forget to fulfill their task as the ruler of one country. They forget the essence of leadership and human rights. And this is true in his time. And because of this selfishness and corruption, our country suffered from an economic slowdown that they increase the unemployment in our nation. High prices increases and protestors began to increase along some areas like plaza Miranda. . There were Lovely pinks in the flowers, houses, and garages, and green trees covered the streets. There was an Old run down house called â€Å"witches house†; we always biked ten times faster past it on our way home from the park. There was a sporadic spew of people Walking past black fences that lined the perimeters of houses, and many cars were parked around the Thai restaurants on the corners. Every once in a while the smell of tar from the roofing company across the ally would creep up the block. However the Thai food sweetly overpowered it. It was an Easy going, diverse, peaceful, busy street. In the summer there were Lime popsicle and slushies from the paleta man during breaks from helping dad with the lawn. Next door was a Little boy named Alex who always asked â€Å"why?† no matter what you answered the previous question. He had guinea pigs and grew corn in his back yard. Kathy always made scrambled eggs with toast cut into triangles for breakfast. It’s my favorite. I also remember the short, swirled, green carpet, the tan cloth recliner, the green couch with buttons, and the two green recliners, one Gib’s, Kathy’s husband, which was leather, and one Kathy’s, which was soft cloth. No one ever wanted to sit in the tan cloth recliner, because it was the time-out chair. When Mom or Dad would come to pick me up, I would always hide behind the green couch with buttons. That couch is gone now, but I still remember every distinguished detail about it, such as its short, soft cloth, green cloth buttons, or even the fact that boxelder bugs would come in through the door, and I remember one being on the couch. Oh, how I hated those boxelder bugs. I remember watching Jeopardy at six o’clock the nights it was on. When it was nap time, Kathy would lay down the same sheet, white with orange flowers on it, with a pillow, that I sw ore was the softest pillow in the world, and rub my back till I fell asleep. She still has that same exact sheet, and it has a big stain on it from where I spilled my milk. I was two weeks old when my mom asked Kathy to be my babysitter. Kathy didn’t know if she wanted to take me since she had gotten attached to a child she had watched before. The parents of the child decided to move out of town. Kathy was devastated. She was also seventy-six years old at the time. Kathy eventually decided to watch me once. After that one time, she decided that she could keep watching me. It’s because of that one decision that Kathy’s home grew to be my home. Her home was where I was potty trained. It’s where I learned to eat without a high chair. Her home is where she taught me how to write, read, and spell my own name; I didn’t go to preschool.It’s where I learned respect, and where I grew to be well-mannered. It’s where I learned to love the Lord. Her home was everything to me. After my parents divorced, my family moved often. I am seventeen years old now, and I have lived in nine different houses since I was born. There was never really any place that I could call â€Å"home,† except Kathy Brown’s house. If I was upset and needed someone to talk to, I would go to Kathy’s house. If I was having a rough day, I would go to Kathy’s house. If I was having a good day, I would want to tell her. Her house was always there throughout my life. The door was always open for me. Kathy moved three years ago; I was fourteen. She was ninety and needed to live in a single level home because she couldn’t walk without her walker. Kathy moved to Kirksville into a single level home that has safety appliances, such as holding rods, sitting showers, and ramps. I was so glad that she was in a safer home, and I know that her new home will always be welcome to me, but I know that it’s not the same. I know that there hasn’t been childhood memories made in her new house and that it wasn’t the house that shaped me into who I am today. Kathy and I still talk frequently, but I catch myself wishing that I could go back to the green and white house across the street from the First Baptist Church. I know it might sound weird, but sometimes I go on a walk just to see â€Å"my home.† Even though Kathy isn’t there, my memories will always be held there.
